Longtime platelet donor Dirk van Rensburg, 63, lost his home and car to the recent Southern California wildfires. Despite the devastating setback, van Rensburg showed extraordinary commitment to City of Hope patients, appearing for his regular donation at City of Hope’s blood donor center 72 hours after the fire. It was his 164th such donation.

“Everything is still the same,” van Rensburg told KABC-TV when a reporter interviewed him during his appointment.

For more information on donating platelets or how to help van Rensburg through his trying time, please contact the blood donor center at 626-471-7171. (Photo by Terri Murray)
